David Casper, 16, sat on a bench outside Churchill Downs beautifully crooning "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston.

Casper, whose belt buckle is a big flaming guitar, won't be moving on in the competition, but he can't stop singing. A small, appreciative crowd has gathered around him, including his mother Robin and his grandma Betty. They came from Springfield, Illinois.

Following his free performance, Casper, who sings in a Barbershop Quartet, shared what he judges told him.

"They said I was really good, but I need to work on my pitch," he said. "I'm disappointed, no doubt. Most people are really (peeved) at the judges, but I'm mad at myself...I've been defeated."

His mom and grandma reassured him.

Grandma Betty also takes some credit for her grandson's singing ability and frame of reference by introducing him to artists, including Eddie Arnold when he was a litle boy.
"He's got a grandpa and a grandma that taught him real songs," Betty says proudly.
