On leave

There were only a few left. Raven Buford was one of them. She wasn't asked to sing until late in the afternoon. Her voice wasn't strong enough, she wasn't what they were looking for.

She was going to meet friends for dinner. Her father, Bradley, was going to run two miles. A full time member of the Army reserves he had taken leave to drive with Raven from their home in St. Charles Missouri to Louisville.

"I'm not going to stop singing of course," said Raven, 17. "This was never my goal, just a new experience."
