Corey Hall didn't make it past the first cut Friday, but he didn't let that bother him too much.

"It's my life, I control it," said Hall, an 18-year-old from Shelbyville.

At the words "my life," Hall's best friend Amanda Barich launched into Jon Bon Jovi's "It's my Life."

He's only been singing since the original tryouts earlier this summer. The producers told him his vocals "weren't strong" but, Barich added, the cameras loved him, filming him whenever they could.

"They told me to come back next year," he said. "I'll be back."

As he walks through the light drizzle to the car he clasps Barich's hand. Together they sing "I feel no shame, I'm proud of where I come from..."
